Amna Nazimuddin

Experienced Secondary School Teacher (Computer Science, ICT and Maths)

I am an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher specializing in Computer Science, ICT, and Mathematics, with a strong commitment to contributing to team success through hard work, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. Currently working as a Computer Science Teacher at Villiers High School, I possess a comprehensive understanding of the Computer Science, ICT, and Maths curricula and am highly motivated to learn, grow, and excel in delivering engaging and impactful lessons across all three subjects.

I am passionate about inspiring students to explore and embrace the fields of Computing, ICT, and Mathematics, encouraging them to see the real-world applications and opportunities that these subjects offer. In today’s rapidly evolving technological and analytical landscape, technology and numeracy skills are essential for addressing many of life’s daily challenges. My aim is to equip students with critical computational thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, enabling them to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven and data-informed world.

By fostering curiosity, creativity, and confidence in my students, I strive to make Computer Science, ICT, and Mathematics exciting and accessible subjects. I am dedicated to preparing students for the opportunities and challenges of the future, whether through encouraging them to select Computer Science as a GCSE option, enhancing their ICT proficiency, or developing their mathematical understanding and problem-solving abilities.

Tutoring Approach –

Mathematics (KS2, KS3, GCSE)

Personalized Learning Plans: I tailor lessons to meet the unique needs and abilities of each student, ensuring steady progress and confidence in fundamental mathematical concepts like algebra, geometry, and number operations.

Mastery of Exam Techniques: I provide in-depth practice on past papers, exam-style questions, and proven strategies for achieving top marks in GCSE Maths.

Problem-Solving Skills Development: My approach focuses on fostering logical thinking and analytical skills, equipping students to tackle challenging problems independently.

Engaging and Supportive Environment: I make Maths accessible and enjoyable by using real-life applications and interactive problem-solving activities.

Build Strong Foundations: For KS2 students, I focus on core arithmetic, fractions, and decimals to ensure a smooth transition to secondary school-level Maths.

Computer Science (KS3, GCSE, A-Level)

Mathematics (KS2, KS3, GCSE)

Comprehensive Subject Knowledge: I offer expert guidance in programming (Python, SQL, HTML), algorithms, data representation, and computational thinking across all levels.

Tailored Curriculum Support: Whether your child is just starting with KS3 Computing or preparing for A-Level Computer Science, I adapt my lessons to align with exam board requirements and individual learning goals.

Practical and Real-World Applications: I demonstrate how computing concepts apply to everyday life and careers, inspiring students to excel and consider future opportunities in technology.

Exam Success Strategies: I provide structured revision sessions, coding exercises, and guidance on mastering both written and practical exam components for GCSE and A-Level.

Engaging Projects and Activities: From app development to solving real-world challenges, I encourage creativity and innovation to keep students motivated and inspired.

Bridge the Gap: I simplify complex topics like recursion, object-oriented programming, and networking to ensure students excel at A-Level.

Experience:

Throughout my career, I have taught a broad range of topics, including GCSE Mathematics, foundational Mathematics for KS3, programming, algorithms, networks, data representation, and ICT systems. By tailoring lessons to meet the diverse needs of learners, I ensure that students are challenged, supported, and motivated to excel. My ability to differentiate instruction has been instrumental in enabling students of varying abilities to make measurable progress. For example, when delivering lessons on algebra and geometry to GCSE students, I used real-world applications to make abstract concepts tangible and relatable.

In Computer Science, I have taught GCSE and A-Level topics such as programming in Python, SQL, and HTML, as well as data structures, ethical and legal impacts of technology, and computational thinking. For KS3 students, I have delivered engaging lessons on foundational Computing and ICT topics, such as mobile app development, algorithms, and problem-solving. I take pride in connecting theoretical knowledge with practical applications, encouraging students to see the relevance of these subjects in their daily lives and future careers.

In Mathematics, I have designed and delivered lessons on a variety of topics, from number theory and algebra to geometry and statistics. By utilizing formative and summative assessments, I monitor student progress and provide targeted feedback, helping learners overcome challenges and build confidence in their mathematical abilities. I also focus on developing problem-solving and logical reasoning skills, which are critical for success in both Mathematics and Computing.

Beyond the classroom, I have led extracurricular activities such as coding clubs, ICT workshops, and math competitions, creating opportunities for students to deepen their interest and skills in these subjects. By fostering creativity, curiosity, and resilience, I aim to inspire students to explore careers in technology, mathematics, and related fields.

My strong behaviour management skills and ability to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment have consistently enabled students to thrive. For instance, when working with KS3 and GCSE students who faced challenges in punctuality or classroom behaviour, I consistently applied school policies and developed supportive strategies to encourage participation and progress.

Collaboration and professional development are central to my approach as an educator. I have worked closely with colleagues to develop lesson plans, share resources, and create cohesive curricula that align with national standards. I have also undertaken professional development opportunities, including earning the NCCE Certificate for GCSE Computer Science and ongoing training in behaviour and learning leadership.

My teaching philosophy centres on empowering students with the skills and confidence to succeed in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world. Whether teaching Mathematics, ICT, or Computer Science, I prioritize fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. By combining theoretical understanding with practical applications, I help students build a strong foundation and prepare for the opportunities and challenges of the future.

Through my expertise and dedication, I am committed to inspiring students, fostering a love for learning, and preparing them for success in Mathematics, Computing, and beyond.
